Surprised by our Tourism 'straw poll'?

Our 'straw poll' on 'How far do you agree or disagree that Wells should encourage more tourism?' which was held at our November meeting produced interesting results:

A secondary question, 'Which of the following would be the most important effects of more tourism in Wells (select one or more boxes'' produced the following responses:

More good jobs	17
Too much traffic	11
Better shopping facilities	12
Overcrowding	5
More money in the local economy	26
Reduced incentive to create other types of employment	1
Other (please state):	9

The secondary question provided more mixed responses, with some indication of concerns that tourism can have negative effects. But the strongly positive views on the initial question are perhaps surprising. Should we in fact be surprised by this?
